"Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass... It's about learning to dance in the rain." - Vivian Greene
Facing a natural event like a storm or hurricane is a great lesson in surrender, and in realizing what little control we truly have. Nature always bats last, and there's not much we can do to change that.
We can't control the storms, we must simply weather them as best we can. Waiting for the storm to pass, is like waiting for everything in life to be perfect before we stop to enjoy it. I'd rather dance in the imperfect, stormy moments.
Waiting for Tropical Storm (now hurricane) Fiona to pay us a visit over the weekend was exactly such a lesson. We waited as the arrival time kept getting pushed back and wondered if each strong gust was the beginning of something more significant. I was without internet and cell service, except for some brief moments where I could get the latest storm updates, and sometimes not even that. There was nothing I could do but wait and see. Instead of being frustrated by my situation, I made the best of it, appreciating two days of solitary disconnection and the wild forces of nature.
We are of course grateful that the storm was not worse for St. Croix, and our thoughts are with all those in Fiona's path.
Happy Monday!
