A stunning custom ring, this one of a kind piece came to life recently. It was the combination of a ring Liz had designed (that I discovered going through some boxes), the vision of the client and my translation of both of those things. She wanted a ring created that had ocean inspired movement, a bezel setting for her gemstone, a pear faceted London Blue Topaz, and the metal of choice was palladium.
A platinum family metal, palladium is very pure, strong and hypoallergenic, just like platinum itself. Most palladium jewelry is PD950, which is 95% pure. Down here on St. Croix, we definitely have to deal with silver jewelry tarnishing far more quickly than in other parts of the world and white gold of any karat will yellow over time, as it is naturally a yellow metal. Palladium is a good option for a precious, white metal that will not change color, without the platinum price tag.
While jewelry making is not an attractive process, it did result in a uniquely stunning and absolutely one of a kind piece. The journey to get there is not always pretty. This is definitely one of my favorite custom pieces – it’s such a wonderful feeling when a design concept comes together!
Please send us an email if you are interested in having a piece custom made.
