Who is Hank the Septopus? Well, have you seen Finding Dory yet?
A big summer movie for kids of all ages, who doesn’t love Ellen DeGeneres as the naive and forgetful blue tang, Dory? The bigger star of this show may just be Hank the Septopus, voiced by Ed O’Neill and as you may have guessed, Hank is an octopus with a missing tentacle!
According to Babes in Disneyland:
“When designers were working on Hank, they created tapered tentacles for the cephalopod. The tentacles were modeled separately from the body, but when they tried to attach them, only seven would fit. Filmmakers later decided that it made sense that Hank would have an affliction, so they worked it into the script.”
There was even a rumor that Hank has been hiding in every Disney Pixar film to date! However, it looks like that was an April Fool’s joke, since the video was posted on April 1 of this year.
If you have been a fan of the FantaSea octopus design, you know that our friend the octopus also has only seven tentacles! Well if you have ever wondered, clearly our FantaSea octopus must be a relative of Hank’s (with a similar affliction?)
Similarly to Hank’s creation story, from a design standpoint, odd numbers of key elements tend to work together for the best aesthetic, eight tentacles just didn’t fit! Seven is considered a lucky number by many. After all, there are seven days of the week, seven colors in the rainbow, seven seas and seven continents (and what about James Bond and those dwarves?).

All of the FantaSea octopus pieces feature a focal gemstone for the head. If Hank were a FantaSea octopus, what gemstone do you think his head would be?
