There’s a certain way summer tastes, smells and feels. For me, having grown up in New England, summer tasted like fresh blueberries from the farmers market and lemonade my grandmother used to make from real lemons. It smelled like flowers and fresh cut grass, and felt like freedom. 

Winters in New England were not as much fun for me, so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to move to a Caribbean island when I was a young teenager. No more snow! Sunshine EVERYDAY! Beaches in literally every direction! 

When I was younger, I loved the idea of hitting the beach every weekend, all year long, and of course that I no longer had a need for closed-toed shoes, winter jackets or snow shovels. As an adult, I appreciate all of that and more! I can enjoy lunch at any of the island’s beautiful outdoor restaurants year round, explore the island’s terrain through weekly nature hikes, or just enjoy a walk in the sunshine - especially along the shoreline. 

The feeling of sunshine on my bare skin is one that immediately takes me back to New England summer, blueberries and lemonade, or lazy afternoons spent reading a good book on my favorite island beach. I guess you could say, I have sunshine in my soul - and I have for years.
