Monday Morning Inspiration, August 10

“Authenticity is a collection of choices that we have to make every day. It's about the choice to show up and be real. The choice to be honest. The choice to let our true selves be seen.” ― Brené Brown

Being authentic doesn’t mean sharing everything with everyone or always feeling completely confident. Sometimes it means setting a boundary, changing our minds, admitting that we don’t know, or choosing a path that others may not understand. Sometimes it is simply allowing ourselves to enjoy what we enjoy, want what we want, and be who we are, without feeling the need to explain or apologize for it.

Letting ourselves be truly seen requires courage. There will always be a temptation to smooth out our edges, quiet our opinions, or shape ourselves into whatever we think will be most accepted, but every time we choose honesty over approval, we strengthen the relationship we have with ourselves. We begin to understand that belonging does not come from fitting in, it comes from being accepted as we truly are, beginning with self-acceptance.

Creativity lives in this space of authenticity, too. Our most meaningful ideas and expressions often emerge when we stop trying to make what we think we should make, or live as we think we should live, and begin listening to what genuinely moves us. Creativity is not only about making art; it is the way we shape our lives, solve problems, express ourselves, and bring something into the world that could only have come through us. The more freely we allow ourselves to be who we are, the more room we create for that spark to come through.

There is something deeply freeing about realizing that authenticity isn’t a destination we have to reach. It is a practice, renewed one choice at a time. Today, may we give ourselves permission to show up a little more honestly, take up our own space, and let the world see more of the wonderfully real person who has been there all along.

Happy Monday!
