“And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.” ― F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
There is something about the beginning of summer that makes the world feel new again.
The light is brighter, the days stretch a little longer, the trees seem fuller almost overnight. Here in the Caribbean things look a little different, less green, more mangoes, flamboyant trees showing their brilliant warm colors. Even if nothing dramatic has changed, there is a feeling in the air that something is shifting, that life is opening up, inviting us to begin again
That is part of summer’s warm magic. It reminds us that renewal does not always arrive with a grand announcement. Sometimes it arrives in sunlight, in flowers, in warm mornings, with the birds. In the simple decision to let ourselves feel hopeful again.
Living in the islands gives this idea another layer. Here, where summer often feels less like a season and more like a way of life, we are reminded that time moves in circles and cycles as much as it moves forward. The sun rises, the trade winds blow, the sea changes color, the heat asks us to slow down, and life keeps unfolding in its familiar rhythms.
There is an old island wisdom in that. Beneath all our striving, planning, worrying, and rushing, life is still asking us to be here for it. To take things a little easier when we can. To notice the beauty passing through our days. To remember that joy is not something we have to earn once everything is finished.
Summer reminds us that beginning again does not have to mean becoming someone entirely new. Sometimes it simply means returning to ourselves. Returning to what feels alive. Returning to what brings us peace. Returning to the small, sunlit moments that make life feel beautiful again.
So as this new season begins, maybe the invitation is not to push harder, but to soften a little. To let the light in. To trust the rhythm of your own becoming. To believe, even quietly, that life can begin again, right here, right now, under the summer sun.
Wishing you a beautiful start to your summer, and a happy Monday!
