"Try to be a rainbow in someone else's cloud." - Maya Angelou
Do you ever feel like there are people in your life who want to rain on your parade? We all have them in our lives! This is something I've noticed, whenever we have something exciting to share with the world, there are some people who want to point out the negative and what could go wrong.
I have heard this referred to as negativity bias, and comes from the fact that our brains are wired for survival, yet we don't need to be constantly on guard as our more primitive ancestors may have been. So this is how this bias often shows up, people "raining on your parade."
"Be the light" is a message that I tend to see in many different places, expressed in many different ways. This is the intention that also came through for me when I read this quote from Dr. Maya Angelou.
One part of this is, other people's reactions are rarely about you, and when I remember that, it is much easier to be the rainbow in someone else's cloud. They probably need it! I've always said that being an artist, it truly is my calling to bring beauty into the world. Be the rainbow in the cloud, and be the light in times of darkness.
