Monday Morning Inspiration, September 14

"Be present in all things and thankful for all things."— Maya Angelou

When we’re busy moving from one responsibility to the next, one item on the to-do list to the next, it’s easy to overlook the goodness already surrounding us. But the moment we become truly present, we begin to see more clearly: the people we love, the beauty around us, the small comforts of an ordinary day, and all the pieces of our lives that we may have once hoped and worked so hard for.

Presence is one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves. It allows us to fully experience our own lives instead of constantly rushing through them, and it’s also one of the greatest gifts we can offer the people around us, to listen without distraction, to share a moment without thinking about what comes next, and to let someone feel that, right now, they truly have our attention.

I know this is something I talk about often, but it's also advice I continually need to take myself. Slowing down doesn’t always come naturally to me, even when I know how much I need it, and how much better I am when I do it. So over the next couple of weeks, I’ll be practicing what I so often encourage here: stepping away from some (and only some) of the busyness, allowing myself to rest, and becoming more present in the life I’ve worked so hard to create.

I’ve noticed that when I finally give myself permission to slow down, gratitude seems to find me almost automatically. Nothing in my life has necessarily changed, I simply have enough space to notice it.

Maybe that is where gratitude begins, not by searching for more reasons to be thankful, but by becoming still enough to recognize how much is already here.

Happy Monday!
