Caribbean Larimar necklace with hammered sterling silver hand fabricated links makes a definite statement! This chunky, silver link necklace features a long, freeform Larimar cabochon attached to a sterling silver open link chain with round and oval hammer textured links. The gemstone has a beautiful blue color and sought-after varied ripple pattern that looks like the sparkling water on your favorite Caribbean beach!

Larimar is a blue variety of the mineral pectolite, which is the only common gem form of the mineral, and was discovered in the Dominican Republic in the 1970s, which remains the only place in the world it is found. A Peace Corps worker and a native Dominican found the specimens on the beach, where it had washed down from the mountains. They named the gemstone Larimar, combining the name Larissa (said to be the Dominican islander’s daughter), a young woman with brilliant blue eyes, and “mar”, the Spanish word for the sea.
