Fire agate is a variety of chalcedony which gets its color and pattern from multiple layers of agate with particles of goethite, an iron hydroxide mineral. The result is the iridescent, golden shimmer with flashes of green, orange, yellow, and red on brownish body color. With a phenomenon similar to the flash and color play of opal, fire agate is a more rare and durable option.
